when ever i open up a exe file it will ask open with.....
i cannot make it always use the selected programe to open the file i downloaded a reg for exe it did not work after i restarded it and i have no viruses

1. Did you make any recent hardware or software changes on your computer prior to this issue?
2. Are you able to open other files like .pdf or .doc files without any issues?
Step 1: Check if you have already tried the steps provided in the below article.

Step 2: Run the assoc command from the command prompt.
a. Open a command prompt window by typing command.com in the Search text box from the Start menu
b. Click the command.com link or Command Prompt.
From the command.com window type
c. runas /user:yourmachinename\administrator command.com and you are prompted for the administrator password.
d. Enter the password and a new command.com window should open.
From this window enterassoc .exe=exefile
and you should be back to normal.
Step 3: If you still face the same problem then try creating a new user account and check for the issue there.

If it works in a new user account then you need to fix the corrupt user profile.

Machine Throttling

• Click the Start button.
• In the Search box, type "regedit" (without quotes) and press Enter.
• Look for the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions".
• On the right window pane, delete the subkey: "Machine Throttling".
• Restart your system.
