Desktop doesn't want to work. Can't click anything yet everything there.

Can't Click on anything that is on the Desktop, yet all icons and background images are there and run through their desktop image slideshow program (windows 7 appearance settings).
I just can click on anything that is on the desktop along with the "stop
doing what your doing" sound microsoft has created.

I turned my computer on today and everything seemed to be working fine.
Some 20 minutes in, all of a sudden all my open programs minimize and I figure i must have menu+d'd it and had myself go to the desktop.
The background image and the icons are all there,
I just can't click anything.
Neither left nor right click buttons work, when I physically click the mouse button nothing happens other than the critical stop sound plays out.
The taskbar works well and i can go through the start menu and all work, just the
It not only one of the most agravating things in the world to not know what is wrong, but also time consuming.
Hopefully there is nothing wrong with the hardware nor software, just some small glich.
I have tried ctrl+alt+deleting and opened task manager yet none of those steps worked, logging of doesnt work either...
