How Can You Fix - Backup and System Restore Errors.?

Backup and System Restore Errors.

Hi.
I'm running factory-installed Windows 7 64bit on an Asus G60VX notebook.
I did a clean re-install (off of the partition) of Windows 7 about two months ago, and never bothered setting up the Windows backup.
Recently, when finally clicking on the little action center notification, and then trying to set it up -- I was given the
following error every time.
"The backup application could not start due to an internal error.
The service did not respond to
the start or control request in a timely fashion.
(0x8007041D)."
And upon trying to use System Restore, it loaded with an error reading,
"System Restore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system.
A Volume Shadow Copy Service
component encountered an unexpected error.
Check the application event log for more information.
(0x80042302)."
I even tried clicking the repair disc option, just to see if it would work.
It didn't.

So, basically, it would seem all backup/restore point functionality is non-functioning on my notebook.
Any help would be appreciated! I've tried downloading the .Net framework already (as that was supposedly a fix for the "timely fashion" error.
And I've
set both backup and the volume shadow thingy to automatic in the Services menu (another fix I read), but that didn't do anything either.
I'm really dreading another clean install, as it will be the 3rd in the one year I've owned this notebook...

Thanks.
