Fast Solution to Error: Auto login doesn't work after upgrade to IE8

Auto login doesn't work after upgrade to IE8

I am having the same problem as bharker with auto logins except I'm using Vista Home Premium.
As long as my computer is on there is no problem, but after a shutdown or restart none of my auto logins work and none of my user id's are remembered.
I have
tried settings that save temp internet files and cookies and have set all IE8 settings to defaults.
I am not using any software I didn't use with IE7.
Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?

Hello gzick,
What antivirus/internet security software are you running?
Some of these programs take control of the passwords list in an attempt to secure it.
There is a possibility that your security software is actually preventing the passwords from being stored correctly.
You said that after you verified that the correct boxes were checked that it worked for 1 website.
Was this a site that you had previously stored the password for or did you set the password to be remembered and it is functioning normally whenever you return to the site?
Let us know the answers to my questions in your reply.
Thanks,
Jack

Using System Restore

  • Click on the Start button on the Taskbar.
  • Type "System Restore" (without quotes) in the Search box and hit Enter or,
  • Click on System Restore (when you see System Restore pop up  in the list of search results).
  • Make sure the "Recommended restore" radio button is checked on the restore utility window.
  • Click on Next and follow the instructions given.

Note: There is the option on the restore utility to select "Choose a different restore point". Unless you have a specific reason to select a different date and time than what Windows recommends, just select the recommended option stated in the steps above. If you choose to select another one, follow these steps:

Click on that desired date and time, and Windows 7 will perform a scan for any affected programs in that restore point.

Once completed, click Next and follow the instructions given.

Once you have selected the restore point, your system will start the restoring process, after which you will have to restart the system.
